Frequently Asked Questions

What happens on the first visit?

Shortly after booking your first appointment, you will receive an email from me with a link to fill out a secured, online Health History form that will upload directly to your own personal client file in my system. This will need to be completed before your first visit as this provides important information about you and any medical conditions you may have.  This will indicate any contraindications or address any modifications that may need to be implemented in order to treat you safely and effectively.

I will listen to your concerns and assess your individual needs, as well as other factors that may be contributing to your injury, such as lifestyle, sleeping habit, etc.

We will then develop a treatment plan together that will help you return as much as possible to your normal activities of daily living.

Do I have to remove all my clothing for massage therapy?

No.  Your comfort as a client is of utmost importance. I can provide important treatment whether you elect to remove none or all of your clothing.

All RMTs are trained in proper draping procedures to ensure that your privacy is completely respected at all times during treatment. Your comfort and ability to relax is paramount to an effective treatment.

I will also describe the treatments to be applied to ensure that you are comfortable with them as your consent is needed before treatment is provided.  If you are uncomfortable at any time, please inform me immediately, whether that discomfort involves the treatment, draping or any pain you may be experiencing.  I will gladly stop or modify to your comfort level.

How will I feel after the massage therapy treatment?

Most people feel very relaxed after treatment. Some experience freedom from long- term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling “slowed down,” people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity, which can last for days.

Sometimes you may feel a bit light headed or dizzy after your treatment, this is a normal occurrence and usually subsides after a few minutes. Because of this, I ask that you get up slowly from the table and sit for a few minutes to either help avoid it from occurring or to help it subside.

If you are unfamiliar with Massage Therapy or you haven't received treatment in a while you may experience some soreness in the areas treated.  This will feel similar to the soreness you experience post-exercise and it should disappear within a day or two.   If it doesn't, please contact me and let me know.

It is also recommended that you drink plenty of water following your massage to re-hydrate.

Does massage therapy hurt?

With massage therapy, the pressure is applied to the patients tolerance and their present condition.  Please keep in mind that although I can feel the tension in your muscles, I can NOT feel your tolerance, so communication throughout your treatment is very, very important to any discomfort you are feeling at any time.

Can anyone receive massage therapy?

Yes, massage therapy is appropriate for individuals of all ages, however, there are some conditions for which massage therapy is not appropriate. A qualified Massage Therapist is trained to recognize these cases.

What if I require special accommodations?

Should you require special accommodations please feel free to contact me as I'm always happy to help and accommodate.
